For those of you who have been watching Rookie Blue since season 1 then you were probably pretty happy with last nights finale. Hell, even if you just started watching this season you had to be reasonably happy that Sam ended up with Andy, especially after Andy’s d-bag of a fiance cheated on her. But its not only the “shippers” who should be happy after this season, but also those of us who enjoy a good summer show finding success.
Rookie Blue has pulled solid numbers since its first season and has been renewed for a third. That means that your summer viewing no longer has to be limited to MTV reality (or heaven’s forbid–Teen Wolf). Rookie Blue has shown that it is possible for a major network to run good summer program that is entertaining and pulls in the ratings. Now, it must be said that the cast truly makes this show. Without them would you care that Sam and Andy finally get to attempt normal or that Noelle is FINALLY pregnant? Probably not, they sell the show, from the main characters to those riding along in the background everyone has something to care about.
If you have not seen the 2 hour finale, I suggest you take some time now and go watch it. It’s available on Hulu (make sure you watch episodes 12 and 13) or on ABC.com. If you have followed the show from the beginning this would have been a nice series finale. Everyone seemed to get what they want, or were at least headed in the direction of getting what they needed. Saying that, it does the raise the question of where do we go from here? Surely after 3 years these guys can’t keep being “rookies” and next season for Sam and Andy can either go the path of bliss, or the path of constant bickering and making up. My hopes are we just accept bliss, and bring in a new class of recruits. Filming has started so it shouldn’t be long until we start getting leaks of where things are headed. Until that time, enjoy what was an excellent summer finale, and start bracing yourself for fall TV to start!
