Thor stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Tom Hiddleston and Loki, and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.  Odin is the father to Thor and Loki.  Both Thor and Loki are in line to inherit their fathers throne.  Thor is a brash, rowdy warrior and Loki is a more calculating, intellectual.  Thor is about to ascend to the throne when soliders of the Frost Giants come to Asgard to retrieve their Casket of Ancient Warriors.  Odin’s giant soldier stops the soldiers, but Thor decides to go to the land of the Frost Giants and seek revenge.  Odin orders him to stay put, but Thor goes anyway.  After barely escaping, and angering the Frost Giants, Odin casts Thor out of Asgard to Earth.  He also casts his hammer down and decrees that no one can use the hammer or have Thor’s power until they are worthy.
Upon landing on Earth, Thor meets Jane Foster who has been studying the desert storms that brought Thor and his hammer to Earth.  Jane helps Thor get on his feet on Earth and witnesses him trying to retrieve his hammer.  Thor has to fight through S.H.I.E.L.D agents to get to his hammer.  He succeeds in this but is not worthy so she cannot use the hammer.  he continues to fall in love with Jane and learn to care about someone other than himself.  Meanwhile, Loki is plotting to destroy Asgard and Thor when he learns that he is in fact a child of the Frost Giants.  Odin adopted him after defeating the Frost Giants.  Loki is angry and after his father goes into his “death sleep” he tells Thor he is gone and his mother does not want him to return to Asgard.
Thor’s friends realize what Loki is up to and go to Earth to bring Thor back.  Loki unleashes the giant solider on Earth.  Thor sacrafices himself to save his friends and Jane.  Upon his sacrafice the hammer rises and comes back to him.  Thor defeats the giant soldier and returns to Asgard to save his father and stop Loki.  He defeats Loki but has also destroyed the bridge to earth so he cannot return to Earth to be with Jane.
I stayed after the credits, but did not get the bonus footage that shows (SPOILER) that Loki is still alive and influencing Dr. Skelig (one of Jane’s co-workers) as he is being interogated by S.H.I.E.L.D.
Overall, Thor was a lot of fun.  The action was impressive, Chris Hemsworth was the perfect person to play Thor.  The casting as a whole was great.  The only problem was that the action was at the beginning and end of the movie.  In between there was some flirting, and Thor not understanding “Earth” customs, then all of a sudden he was in love with Jane and was willing to give up his life and Asgard to be with her.  It just didn’t compute!  But, this was simply a set up for The Avengers, so I can forgive some.  Thor was a good time, but I wouldn’t recommend paying full price to see it.  I give Thor 3.5/5 Mjolnir’s.
