If you are into movies with a lot of twist, turns and confusion this is the movie for you.
We start out with Dr. Martin Harris (Neeson) and his wife Elizabeth Harris (Jones) arriving in Germany because Dr. Harris is in the country to give a lecture and a symposium. As they place their luggage in the cab Harris is instructed by his wife to let the cab driver duo it. Of course, he leaves his very important briefcase at the airport when he does this. Set up? Who knows.
We then see the couple arrive at their hotel and as Elizabeth checks in Martin realizes he does not have his briefcase and hails another cab to head back to the airport without telling his wife what he is doing. As the cab driver, Gina (Kruger) rushes Martin to the airport they have a freak accident and end up in the river. Gina saves Martin’s life and then fled the scene as the police and ambulance arrive.
Four days later, Martin awakens from his coma and is not sure about what has happened. All he knew was that he had to find his wife because she has no idea where he is. The doctor allows this and when Martin goes to the hotel he finds out something interesting. First, his wife does not know who he is and second, there is another Martin H. Drama ensues and hotel security escorts Martin to a cab where he requested to go to the hospital because his doctor warned him this would happen. Martin does not really go to the hospital he continues to try to find out what is going on. He tracks down Gina, who happens to be illegally in the country so she is of no help. During his adventure to find the truth he feels as if he is being followed. He eventually ends up back in the hospital and a friendly nurse gives him the information to find a person who finds people. Going back to Martin’s feelings of being followed all is confirmed when he an attempt at kidnapping him is made, the helpful nurse is killed and he has no choice but to find her contact Ernst Jurgen (Ganz), who was a former member of the German police.
Ernst believes Martin’s story and tells him to find Gina so he can talk with her. Once he gains Gina’s trust they find themselves under attack by the same people who have been following Martin throughout the film.
Ernst did a little work himself. He was able to find proof that Martin came into the country with Elizabeth days earlier and he was contacted by Rodney Cole (Langella), who is Martin’s friend from the university he works at back in the states.
Are you confused yet? I was. In the essence of not spoiling the ending. I will sum up the last part of the film.
- Dr. Martin Harris is not who he thought he was.
- Elizabeth Harris was not who she claimed to be.
- Martin H. was not Martin H.
- Rodney Cole was not a professor
- Ernst Jugen is a true soldier
- Gina was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
- Keep up with your luggage at the airport!
I left this movie confused and not really pleased. It was hard to watch Neeson play a character who was not a tough guy who knew what to do the entire film. There was way too much going on throughout the entire film all the way to the end. That does not include all the loopholes that flowed in and out as well. I say if you are a Neeson fan (as I am) see it at the dollar movie! 2/3 stars.
