Scott Pilgrim is a hapless loser who is dating a high school girl (while still trying to mend his broken heart after being dumped a year ago), plays bass in a middle of the road band, and lives in an apartment with his gay roommate where the only thing he owns is his coat.  Then he meets the girl of his dreams appropriately enough in a dream.  Ramona Flowers is a delivery girl for Amazon and she travels through some of Scotts brainspace for speed in her deliveries (just go with it, remember this is based on a comic book).  Scott falls immediately in love, he dumps his high school girlfriend and starts dating Ramona.  But there’s a problem, Ramona has seven evil exes and before they can be together Scott must defeat them all.

A great job by Michael Cera as Scott Pilgirm, it is almost as if the comic books were wrote around Cera, that is how well he embodies this character.  The entire cast was amazing and perfect for the roles they were cast for, but in particular Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, and Ana Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim really brough a little something extra to the screen.  Brandon Routh and Chris Evans also showed us their comedic side by throwing themselves full force into their roles of evil exes.

The fight scenes were amazing and the special effects really gave the movie its extra pop.  From the opening of the movie when the Universal opening music was done in video game tune it was clear this was not an everyday movie.   The transition from video game, to comic book, to real world were flawless.

Elizabeth’s thoughts

  • Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim is amazing and a perfect fit!
  • Kieran Culkin as Scott’s roommate Wallace really made the movie for me.
  • The visuals and music were on point!

Please go see this movie for what it is.  Entertainment.

5/5 one up men!

  1. This is supposed to be an excellent movie but it’s not out here yet *sob* so I’m going to have to wait! Great review though!
