Rookie Blue is ABC’s newest cop show.  Relegated to the summer schedule (usually this means the company has little hope for its success),  Rookie Blue is actually a winner in this dull summer of new programming.  Starring Missy Peregrym as Andy McNally (you may know her from Stick It, and she portrays our resident “cops daughter”), Gregory Smith as straightlaced Dov(familiar due to being on Everwood and looking amazingly like James McAvoy), Enuka Okuma as Traci, Travis Milne as Chris, and Charlotte Sullivan as Gail Peck (our resident bitch slash daughter of a legend i’m guessing).

Episode one takes us to our group of Rookie’s first day.  We see Andy, Traci, and Chris being chosen to ride along their first day, while our other rookies are left behind to answer phones and book criminals.  On the first day out Andy and her ride along leader run across a shooting of a drug dealer.  This brings the other two rookies in.  Its a little contrived, and a been there done that story line, but the acting is good and they really carry off the story.  The show has its cliches.  The veteran cops not trusting their rookies, and then being proven wrong; mysteries solved in the span of 45 minutes, and everyone ending the day with a nice group drink.

I love the cast and that is what is selling me on this show.  It has a lot of potential and i’m going to stick around.  I would suggest trying it out, what else are you watching right now?  Enjoy it while you can, because I doubt this show will survive the summer.
